The Nature Concept School

Shanti Ananda newsletter 3/2010

On April 7th the teachers‘team went to the new school area for the very first time – it is located in about 15 minutes walking distance from our momentary school. Because of the burning heat we started already at 8o’clock am and went around the area. The teachers discovered a huge cactus with ripe fruits, and I came to enjoy them: they deep red with a sour taste and are told to purify the blood. This small excursion gave a first impression of what a Nature School can afford…

Teachers in front of a huge cactus

The solar cooker – very appropriate for our developing nature school - donated by Amar was introduced by the teachers preparing a sweet dish; everybody liked it very much. In the summer holidays every teacher will receive the cooker for one week – having the chance to test it in his/her own surrounding. Certainly this will become a big PR-action for the cooking with solar energy which is not only eco sustainable, but also much less expensive than the food preparation with wood or gas.

Cooking team in action

On April 3rd, Eastern Saturday, we had two workshops in the Shanti Ananda School guided by Angelika und Andrea– they are both art and yoga teachers. They did not shy away because of the extreme heat and offered Yoga for Kinder garden children and a water colouring Workshop. First the small children had the opportunity to practise simple yoga exercises inspired by animals’ movements.

So many supple cats stretching themselves…

The most Yoga Schools teach that children should start with yogasanas (yoga exercises) not before the age of eight years. Yoga for small children is very meaningful to lead the children to their centre; aggressive children become more silent and less concentrated children will become more focused, Angelika und Andrea told. Andrea exercises yoga for kinder garden children regularly in Germany…

Water is important: wet papers and cups with fluid colours…

After the yoga a water colouring workshop took place; five teachers and ten students participated. Besides their wide know how Angelika und Andrea had taken with them a big range of materials, for example fluid colours manufactured on the base of plant ingredients.

The painting process with wet colours onto wet papers caused certain fears because of the uncontrollability of the dissolving colours. I think that this is a good life school: do we not often plan something and have to experience that the universe is planning something different for us? Painting with these water colours is practised at many clinics to confront the patients with their fears…

First you have to paint with the light colours

Passing through three painting times with different colour combinations the participants developed amazing pictures vibrating with colours. At the end everybody received the opportunity to present the results to the others.

Angelika and Andrea are satisfied…

On April 14th I said „Good Bye“ to the teachers – I will go to Germany for some time. They have to conduct the examinations before the academic year will be completed 10 days later. The school will open again on June 14th. Chandra Mohan, up to now headmaster, is our new coordinator for the developing Nature School; he will arrange an iron fence around the school area; a beautiful gate will enrich the view to the land as well…

German-Indian communication…

Herbert Müller – who visited the school the very first time – and Klaus (www.myspace.com/premaeol/) who already led some Bhajan Workshops in the school – were present and talked with the students.

With cordial greetings from South India

Yours, Helga Shanti Fründt
