Shanti Ananda Nature Concept School

Newsletter December 2021

After the second period of home-schooling in July and the first half of August, we are conducting 'normal school life' again since August 16th. 170 students are attending our school in the Academic Year 2021/22.

On December 7th a little Santa Claus celebration took place, enabled by a donation of Klaus from Germany. He gave Bhajan lessons, music classes and workshops at our school some years ago! Santa Claus, respective Santa Babu (our science-teacher) distributed apples and sweets to children and staff. This was the first celebration after long time - but we are planning to arrange a Cultural event in January! The last one has been in 2020, nearly 2 years ago.

Our teacher Zahrunnisha is having a difficult time as she became widow suddenly and unexpectedly: On September 11th, after his third stroke, her husband passed away. That has been a big shock and pain for her and her two sons, causing also financial problems as the family income was reduced drastically. The Government will not take action in cases like this? The staff members thought over how to help her and took an admirable decision: They supported their colleague not only morally and economically, but they donated fifty thousand INR (Indian Rupees) to her. Furthermore, the headmaster suggested increasing her salary so that she can feed her two children.

Our valuable school community has proven itself in difficult times. We took care since it is our responsibility according to our philosophy of Human Values. Against the background of Indian culture where widows very often have to bear a painful, isolated and ostracized status, this way of dealing with Zahrunnisha's situation is very noble. If you want to get a small impression into the life of an Indian child widow watch the movie 'Water' you will have revealing insights, even if the plot takes place in Gandhi's time, so it was a few decades ago.

School uniform distribution

From the very beginning onwards we distribute school uniforms to the students. They are common in India as they show equality of the students - if students want to stand out, it must be through their performance, not their clothes. In 2007 the colors green and pink became 'ours', pink symbolizing the heart chakra, and green symbolizing nature.

The students receive new uniforms every second year, the newcomers every year. New books are given to the students yearly. Also in this year the Shanti Ananda Education Society distributed school uniforms and books to all our 170 students. The books were handed over in the home-schooling centers because at that time the school was closed (lockdown).

On 8th March 2021 - on account of Women's Day - a free Medical Camp - a MEGA  HEALTH  CAMP - for the students, parents and the community of Mudigubba was arranged. It had been organized by Shanti Ananda Education Society in cooperation with the Peace Welfare Society which had conducted several eye-camps on our area already. Staff members and parents donated blood to Deepu Blood Bank which distributes blood free of costs to those who are in need. Doctors not only offered their services for free, they also offered free medication, very welcomed by the people.

This year we had excessive rain in this district and other places, and the school area is green like never before and reminding of a forest. On November 17th heavy rain came, causing a flood in the area again, like four years ago. The southern part was fully flooded for one week; three classrooms and the guesthouse were not reachable with dry feet. Still, some water is present, but the peak has been passed. Four classrooms are still surrounded by some water; the Guesthouse can still be reached through water only. LKG, UKG, and 1st class shifted into the Administration building temporarily whilst the classes 5 to 7 are taught in the classes of the small ones.

Luckily the playground is nearly dry! We are really happy and grateful that we can offer our students a fulfilling everyday school life despite all the adverse circumstances.

I wish all of you

an equally fulfilling and peaceful time

during advent and Christmas

and a good transition into the next year

with the interesting number

2022!

May all your wishes be fulfilled!

With kind regards,

Helga Shanti Fruendt
